Artist statement
Säilä's main media is photography however she keeps herself open to all kinds of visual media depending on the project.
Although her working methods vary, her art focuses on issues surrounding similar subject matter. The relationship with her body
has always been an important theme for her and she repeatedly puts herself both in front of and behind the camera. She
occasionally uses models, mainly females, to represent her personal issues. She is interested in pose and believes that how we
pose for the camera, is the same way we pose for society. The body is a stage in which we present ourselves to others and create
our performative gender; femininity and masculinity are questioned. All Säilä's works have a certain humour and playfulness and she enjoys confusing and challenging the viewer.
